Somebody already found that stump.

BoatTender is a free app for the water. Your boat on a live map, every marina one tap away, and what is out there right now — put there by the boats that went past it an hour ago.

No account needed to look at the map.

Coming to the App Store and Google Play.

The map

Your boat is the puck.

Open it and you are on the map, moving. There is no route to enter and nothing to plan. The lake is the screen, you are on it, and so is everyone who is sharing.

BoatTender will not route you and will not tell you when you will get there. It is not a chartplotter and it is not a substitute for one. It shows you what is on the water.

Marinas

Every marina, one tap.

Slips, fuel, hours, the phone number that actually rings, pictures, and what the restaurant is serving. Tap a marina and it is there — and every line of it says where it came from and when somebody last checked.

If something is wrong, say so in the app. It goes to the marina.

Reports

Things get old on purpose.

A shoal, a deadhead, storm debris, a no-wake nobody is obeying. Somebody drops a pin. It fades as it ages and it is gone when nobody has seen it lately. Stale information on the water is worse than none, so we do not keep it around.

  1. Just reported

Full weight on the map. Anybody heading that way sees it.

  2. A few hours on

Quieter, unless somebody passing confirms it is still there.

  3. Nobody has seen it

It comes off the map. It was probably the storm, and the storm was last week.

  4. Gone

A clean map is the point. Old pins make people stop trusting new ones.

Friends and coves

The cove has a name because somebody named it.

See the boats you came out with. Save the coves, sandbars and ramps you actually use, under the names you actually call them, and share them with the people you go out with.

What it costs

Free, and not a trial.

The map, your boat, the marinas and the reports are free. There is no timer on them and no tier that unlocks the lake. The app is how the water gets written down, and the writing-down is the business.

For marinas

Run a marina? Take yours over.

Claim your marina, fix whatever we have wrong, and put what is happening this weekend in front of the boats already on your lake. No charge to claim it.
